September is Copenhagen at its best: the summer tourists have receded, the light is long and amber, and the Danes have stopped apologizing for the weather. This is a city that treats lunch as a practice rather than an aesthetic — find a smørrebrød counter, sit down, and take it seriously. Rent a bike on day one; the city is built for it and you will feel the difference. The National Museum houses Viking artifacts that will dismantle everything a film franchise told you about them. The coffee is excellent, the beer is excellent, and the concept of hygge is not a marketing invention — you will feel it in a pub at 6pm when the candles are lit and no one is in a hurry.
